Following the defeat of the key amendment to Bill C-45 which would raise the marijuana access minimum age to 21, as a compromise solution, Senator Denise Batters delivers her speech in the Senate Chamber proposing an amendment which would raise the marijuana access minimum age to 19 in the Trudeau government’s marijuana legalization law. Despite the Trudeau government’s stated purpose for this legislation, it doesn’t protect kids with a minimum age of 18. This is especially so given the significant risk to the developing brains and mental health of youth who use marijuana.
