Trudeau Government Now Relaying “Messages” on Senate Amendments to Bills Via Staffers in Media Reports
The Senate recently passed two of my major Bill C-9 amendments (Judges Act disciplinary revamp):
• including “laypersons” (people who aren’t lawyers or judges) on disciplinary panels; and
• adding the Federal Court of Appeal back into the process.
Trudeau’s Justice Minister David Lametti signalled through his staffer in a media report that he’ll reject some Bill C-9 amendments. So, later that same day, I asked him at the Senate Legal Committee: Is this how the Trudeau Government now transmits “messages” about legislative amendments to the Senate?
