Senator Denise Batters Speaks in Support of MP Matt Jeneroux’s Bereavement Leave Bill C-220
At 3rd Reading in the Senate Chamber, Senator Denise Batters speaks in support of her friend and CPC Caucus colleague — Edmonton-Riverbend MP Matt Jeneroux’s Bill C-220. This much-needed private member’s bill will provide federally-regulated employees with an additional five days of unpaid bereavement leave. In her speech, Senator Batters tells the Senate about her personal connection to this issue, and discusses the different procedure for private member’s bills in the House of Commons.
Bill C-220 passed unanimously in a standing vote in the House of Commons. And, right after this speech from Senator Batters was delivered, the Senate of Canada passed it unanimously too. Bill C-220 received Royal Assent on June 29, 2021 and is now Canadian law.
Congratulations, Matt, on a job well done!
