Senator Batters: Why I Oppose the Free, Automatic Pardons for Convicted Criminals in Bill S-208

As the Official Opposition’s critic of Trudeau-appointed Independent Senator Pate’s Bill S-208, Senator Denise Batters delivers her 2nd Reading speech in the Senate Chamber. In it, she provides a detailed explanation about why she opposes the free, automatic pardons which convicted criminals could receive under Bill S-208. This senator’s Bill also proposes to slash the law’s wait times currently in effect for these record suspensions (pardons).

Senator Batters tells her Senate colleagues that as legislators, they are responsible to keep Canadians safe. In allowing so many offenders convicted of serious crimes to receive free, automatic pardons after these shortened wait times, Bill S-208 goes way too far.
