The Trudeau Government has now been in power for 5.5 years. Yet, the number of federal judicial vacancies across Canada during their time in office continues to fluctuate between 40-60 judges — even after this long! Appointing these judges is solely within the power of the Trudeau government. Judicial vacancies worsen the major problem of criminal court delays in Canada — which can result in serious criminal charges being dropped!
At the Senate Legal Committee during the committee’s study of Bill C-30 (the Budget Implementation Act), Senator Denise Batters challenges Justice Minister David Lametti on the Trudeau Government’s ongoing judicial appointment backlog.
