Senate Leader won’t take responsibility for Senate rules being broken
In Senate Question Period, Senator Denise Batters asks the Trudeau Government Senate Leader about a sole-source contract that broke Senate procurement rules, which only came to light due to a journalist’s questions.
The Senate’s procurement rules for a sole-source contract over $35,000 were broken. If such a contract is to be issued by Senate administration, that contract MUST be pre-authorized by the Senate’s Internal Economy committee. Senator Batters, Deputy Chair of the Internal Economy committee, confirms that this did not happen.
Senator Harder repeatedly denied any responsibility or knowledge of this situation, saying he found out when the story hit the Globe and Mail. If the Trudeau-appointed Senate Leader won’t accept accountability for the improper spending of taxpayer dollars, and ensuring adherence to the Senate’s rules, who will?
