Senate Committee Removes Random Alcohol Testing from Bill C-46

The Senate Legal and Constitutional Committee passed Senator Denise Batters amendment to remove random alcohol breath testing from the Trudeau Government’s Bill C-46. The vast majority of experienced lawyers and experts that testified before the Committee on this issue roundly condemned the random breath testing regime as rife with Charter violations, and predicted it would lead to racial profiling and significantly aggravate Canada’s already staggering criminal court delays.
