Democratic Institutions Minister Errs in Answering Senate Appointment Q

Senator Denise Batters enters the fray in Senate Question Period when Trudeau’s Democratic Institutions Minister Karina Gould errs in responding to a Senate appointment process question from Senator David Tkachuk. Sen. Tkachuk asked Min. Gould about the Trudeau government’s “independent” Senate advisory appointment BC panellist Vikram Vij, who was recently reappointed to the BC panel. Min. Gould replied that Mr. Vij’s panellist appointment was recommended by the BC provincial government.

Sen. Batters jumped up to correct Min. Gould’s error — pointing out that the then BC government of Premier Christy Clark refused to participate in naming Senate appointment panellists. Sen. Batters also challenged Min. Gould on why she, the Democratic Institutions Minister, doesn’t know this basic fact.
