Canadians Demand Answers on LavScam – Independent Senators say No

In the Senate Chamber, Senator Denise Batters delivers a speech opposing Trudeau “Independent” Senator Andre Pratte’s motion to create a “Special” Senate Committee studying academic and theoretical issues surrounding the SNC Lavalin scandal — but NOT the SNC Lavalin scandal itself! Incredibly, his motion does not even mention SNC Lavalin or Jody Wilson-Raybould.

In her speech, Senator Batters also outlines the merits of the Conservative Senate motion on this issue, which would bring the Trudeau government’s SNC Lavalin scandal before the Senate Legal Committee for investigation. Canadians deserve answers to determine whether Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his top officials attempted to interfere with the Attorney General of Canada to stop the criminal prosecution of SNC Lavalin.

The Senate has a unique interest in this matter — as it was the Senate Legal committee which studied the deferred prosecution agreement portion of the Trudeau government’s Budget Implementation Bill in May 2018. We had to complete our study of this major change to the Criminal Code in only two meetings, and Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould did not attend to explain this bill, despite being invited. Recent events have now cast a whole new light on our Legal committee study on this issue — and cause us to wonder: when did the PMO pressure start on Jody Wilson-Raybould?

Canadians deserve answers, not more attempts to shut down avenues of parliamentary investigation and cover up this massive Trudeau government scandal.
